Dean's Staff Awards

The annual Dean’s Staff Awards recognize exemplary staff supporting the School of Medicine’s mission and values.

For the 2025 Dean’s Staff Awards, please complete the nomination form for each staff person you would like to nominate by February 28, 2025. When making a nomination, please nominate someone in the award category that you think best aligns with their accomplishments, rather than submitting them for multiple awards. Supplementary materials (ie, letters of support) will not be accepted, but those wishing to support a nominee can complete a nomination form themselves.

The Dean’s Staff Awards will recognize outstanding staff members in the following categories:

Dean’s Excellence Staff Award

Recognizes a staff member who consistently demonstrates excellence in one or more of the following areas: education, research, patient care, or community partnership. This staff member lives the School of Medicine values, and consistently demonstrates excellence by going above and beyond in the performance of their work duties, dedication to the institution, collaboration with others, and contributions to the community.

Professionalism and Integrity Staff Award

Recognizes a staff member who demonstrates professionalism and integrity in all aspects of performance and effort. This staff member exemplifies the highest standards of professionalism, and consistently exhibits honesty, integrity, and ethical responsibility.

Inclusion in Action Staff Award

Recognizes a staff member who actively fosters a culture of inclusion through their everyday actions, advocacy, and commitment to equity and belonging. This staff members creates opportunities for collaboration and understanding, and through their actions makes our workplace more welcoming and equitable for all.

Valued Service Staff Award

Recognizes a staff member who positively enhances the lives of others within the School of Medicine, working behind the scenes with an enthusiastic attitude in whatever capacity is necessary. This staff member demonstrates outstanding reliability in the execution of vital duties, without which the School of Medicine could not function.

Eligibility

  • Must be employed at Duke for at least one year (including contract staff at Duke)
  • Must be either permanent, full-time, or part-time benefits eligible staff
  • No active corrective actions

Selection Criteria and Nomination

We encourage you to recognize your outstanding colleagues by completing the brief nomination form. Any staff member who works at the School of Medicine, or whose work materially contributes to the School of Medicine, may be nominated. Supplemental materials (ie letters of support) will not be accepted, but anyone wishing to support a nominee may complete their own nomination form. Please nominate someone in the award category that you think best fits their accomplishments, rather than submitting them for multiple awards. Self-nominations will not be accepted.

The Dean will select the recipient of the staff awards, after initial review by committee.
