Executive Director, Cancer Center

The Duke University School of Medicine and Duke University Health System seek a leading physician-scientist to guide Duke Cancer Institute’s (DCI) ongoing evolution as one of the nation’s leading cancer enterprises. Building on its strong legacy, this strategic and dynamic leader will provide leadership over DCI’s future direction in all aspects of the clinical, research, and academic missions. This pivotal role requires an innovative and growth-oriented physician-scientist with a profound understanding and passion for advancing cancer care, prevention, treatment, and cancer survivorship through education, research, and patient care.

The Executive Director is also responsible for fostering greater impact and alignment for the entire cancer program and Duke’s broader health enterprise through collaboration with Duke University’s School of Medicine and Duke University’s Health System executive leadership, faculty, staff, and other University leaders. This leader will also engage externally and recognize the value of strategic partnerships with industry and other healthcare providers in advancing DCI’s eminence and growth. This position reports directly to and is strategically aligned with the Executive Vice President for Health Affairs/School of Medicine Dean and the Chief Executive Officer of the Duke University Health System.

Chair, Department of Ophthalmology

Duke University School of Medicine (SOM) and Duke University Health System (DUHS) seek a nationally recognized ophthalmologist at the Associate Professor or Professor level to serve as Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology. Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President for Health Affairs of Duke University/Dean of the School of Medicine and to the Chief Executive Officer of DUHS, the chair has the opportunity to shape a robust academic department with a proven reputation for providing high-quality, innovative, patient-centered care, advancing cutting edge research, and cultivating a wide-range of educational opportunities for medical students, residents, and fellows. The Department of Ophthalmology is an internationally renowned multidisciplinary organization comprising 10 divisions and hosting more than 90 faculty, 24 residents, 27 fellows as well as a pediatric optometry resident, and 65 rotating medical students. The department consistently ranks among the top by U.S. News & World Report, Blue Ridge Institute for NIH funding, and Doximity Residency for the training program. The Albert Eye Research Institute, located adjacent to Duke University Hospital, houses state-of-the-art research facilities. Duke specialists provide high quality care to more than 175,000 people each year at Duke hospitals and clinics across the region including new clinics in Holly Springs, Arringdon, and Brier Creek. The Department supports outstanding residency and fellowship training programs; its faculty, fellows, and residents are involved in a wide array of clinical, translational, and basic research programs.

Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President for Health Affairs of Duke University/Dean of the School of Medicine and to the Chief Executive Officer of DUHS, the chair has the opportunity to shape a robust academic department with a proven reputation for delivering high-quality, innovative, patient-centered care, advancing broad-reaching research, and cultivating a wide-range of educational opportunities for medical students, residents, and fellows. The ideal candidate will be an experienced, growth-minded and visionary leader who personally models and promotes professionalism and integrity. 

The Department of Anesthesiology is a large, multi-specialty, research-intensive unit comprising 191 faculty and nearly 100 residents and fellows, organized across ten clinical divisions and ten research and education centers. The Department is nationally recognized for excellence in perioperative medicine, pain management, and critical care, and consistently ranks among the top departments in the nation in NIH funding by the Blue Ridge Institute. The Department supports 11 accredited subspecialty fellowship training programs and a residency program. Faculty lead pioneering efforts in neuroscience, perioperative outcomes, critical care research, patient safety, and health services research. The Department provides high quality care to patients at Duke University Hospital, Duke Children’s, Duke Raleigh Hospital, Duke Regional Hospital, and multiple ambulatory and outpatient centers across the region. The Department has numerous global collaborations and partnerships within the Duke Global Health Institute and strong ties with Duke-NUS Medical School.
