The Duke AHEC Program Office, a part of the North Carolina Area Health Education Center (AHEC), is located on the beautiful campus of the Duke University Medical Center within the Duke University School of Medicine.
Duke AHEC has served as a part of the NC AHEC system since 1974 to recruit, train and retain future health professionals in North Carolina and to provide renowned expert educators to provide quality continuing educational offerings across the state.

Our History
The NC AHEC program began in 1974 for the purpose of establishing a statewide network of community training for health professionals and to address concerns with the supply, distribution, retention and quality of health professionals in North Carolina.
- Duke AHEC is a direct partner and collaborating entity with Southern Regional AHEC to provide speaker resources for continuing education that occurs in Moore, Harnett, Sampson, Bladen, Robeson, Richmond, Cumberland, Hoke, and Scotland counties;
- Supporter of community-based clinical training rotations for primary care residents, medical students, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners;
- Currently collaborates with various regional AHECs to provide health career exploration opportunities in area middle schools.
