After 13 years as DCI’s executive director, Dr. Kastan has decided the time is right to pass the torch to the next generation of leaders.

After over a decade of service, Allan D. Kirk, MD, PhD, will be stepping down as chair of the Department of Surgery effective June 30, 2025.

Colin Duckett, PhD, will serve as executive vice dean for basic and preclinical science, and Geeta Swamy, MD, will serve as executive vice dean for clinical sciences and research administration.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Stacy Waters, MBA, as the new vice president of Duke Health Development and Alumni Affairs (DHDAA), effective November 4, 2024. With over twenty years of proven success in building and strengthening teams, executing comprehensive fundraising strategies, securing transformational gifts, designing grateful patient programs, and enhancing the alumni and volunteer experience, Stacy is an exceptional addition to our leadership team.

After over 38 years of service to Duke Health, Billy Newton Jr., Vice Dean for Administration, Clinical Department Support, will retire effective June 30, 2025.

I write to inform you that Scott Gibson, Executive Vice Dean for Administration for the School of Medicine, has decided to retire from Duke effective July 31, 2025.

We are pleased to announce that following a thorough external review of the department and its leadership, Gary Faerber, MD, has accepted the role of chair of the Department of Urology in the School of Medicine, starting July 1, 2024.
