Miles Moore to Receive AOPT Outstanding Physical Therapy Student Award

The Outstanding PT Student Award will be presented to DPT third-year Miles Moore at the Academy of Orthopaedic Physical Therapy’s (AOPT) Awards Ceremony during the Combined Sections Meeting in Boston, Mass on Friday, Feb. 16, 2024, at 6:30 PM. 

This award is given to a student physical therapist and student physical therapist assistant (first professional degree) with exceptional scholastic ability and potential for contribution to orthopaedic physical therapy.

Faculty Accomplishments: Jamie L. Greco, PT, DPT, EdD, Appointed to Academic Rigor Task Force within ACAPT

Jamie L. Greco, PT, DPT, EdD, Co-Director of Clinical Education: Coordinator of Faculty Development Residency; Assistant Professor in Orthopaedic Surgery, Core Faculty, has been appointed to serve as a member of the Academic Rigor Task Force within the American Council of Academic Physical Therapy (ACAPT). Her unique skills and background will complement the strengths of the organization's existing structure and enhance the overall effectiveness of ACAPT.

Club of the Month: Medicine in Motion @ Duke

Congratulations! The January Club of the Month designated by Duke Campus Groups is Medicine in Motion @ Duke! This group strives to create a community around healthy movement and group exercise to prevent health professional trainee burnout amongst professional MD, PA, DPT, OTD, and nursing students at Duke.

Admitted Student Open House a Success!

On Jan. 6, DPT faculty, staff, and current students welcomed 65 admitted students and their guests to an Open House event at the Interprofessional Education Building.

Jennifer Pennington, MA, Assistant Director of Admissions, shared, "The event went well and made the admitted students feel at home and ready to make the Duke DPT commitment!"

Research Report Release: Hip-Focused PT vs. Spine-Focused PT for Older Adults with Chronic Low Back Pain at Risk for Mobility Decline (MASH)

This collaborative study titled Hip-focused Physical Therapy (PT) versus Spine-Focused Physical Therapy for Older Adults with Chronic Low Back Pain at Risk for Mobility Decline (MASH): a Multicenter, Single-Masked, Randomized Controlled Trial was published in The Lancet: Rheumatology, an internationally leading journal for musculoskeletal research.

Duke DPT Launches New Hybrid Orthopaedics Physical Therapy Residency  

The Duke Doctor of Physical Therapy program, in collaboration with Duke Health Rehabilitation Services, has created a new Hybrid Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency Program for physical therapists who have earned their DPT degree and seek to advance their knowledge and skills.  

The program is seeking applicants to be part of the new one-year program that launches in the fall of 2024.
