A Fighting Chance Against Infection
            As a college gymnast, 3rd year medical student Tori Kinoman contracted a staph infection that resulted in multiple surgeries and nearly losing her leg. She researches antibiotic-resistant staph infections and teaches athletes infection prevention.

    Jane Gagliardi Named Associate Dean for Learning Environment and Well-being
            Jane Gagliardi, MD, MHS, has been named the new Associate Dean for Learning Environment and Well-being, effective July 1.
Gagliardi is a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, professor of medicine, and the director of the Combined Internal Medicine-Psychiatry Residency Training Program.  
        
    Creating Community for Asian American Students
            Medical students Lily Guo and Linda Li each had different experiences before coming to Duke, but an affinity group for Asian American students gave them both a sense of belonging that they said they could not have found elsewhere.  
Duke’s chapter of the Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association (APAMSA) is a student-run organization aimed at fostering a sense of community among the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) student population at Duke University School of Medicine.

            Congratulations to the 375 students from the Duke University School of Medicine who graduated on Sunday, May 14, 2023, marking the successful culmination of their hard work and dedication. Students received degrees in the following programs:

            Dylan Eiger, who is graduating from the School of Medicine with a combined MD/PhD, was nominated for his research contributions and his efforts to promote diversity and inclusion in his field.

            When Leonor Corsino, MD, MHS, came to Duke as an Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Nutrition Fellow in 2006, she had a clear vision of her future as a physician-scientist working to address care, health outcomes, and health disparities for Latino and Hispanic populations.
