BULL CITY FIT

Bull City Fit is a community-based wellness program located in Durham, NC that offers free evening and weekend activity sessions that encourage and promote active living. We offer a safe and fun environment to put into practice the lifestyle modifications that are necessary to treat childhood obesity and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT MEDICAL EVALUATION CLINIC (CANMEC)

 CANMEC provides medical evaluations for alleged sexual abuse, physical abuse, and neglect pediatric patients.  The team provides 24-hour consultation services for patients within the Duke medical system, including scheduled outpatient medical evaluations.

COMMUNITY HEALTH COALITION

The Community Health Coalition is a 501-C 3 non-profit organization founded in 1989, by Elaine Hart-Brothers, MD, MPH an Internist and Mr. John Mickle, MBA. The community-based Health Coalition is fortified by its linkage with the Durham Academy of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy (an association for African-American medical professionals) to provide both volunteer leadership and medical grounding. The Health Coalition brings together and focuses existing community resources to provide culturally sensitive and specific health education, promotion and disease prevention activities to and in Durham's African-American community.

DUKE HEALTH PALLIATIVE CARE/ONCOLOGY

Dr. Arif Kamal is a Duke medical oncologist and palliative care specialist.  He is interested in having a PCLT student to work on projects associated with health services and outcomes research, information-technology enabled registries, supportive oncology and palliative care, quality assessment and improvement and/or other palliative care projects.

DURHAM COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT – PARTNERSHIP FOR A HEALTHY DURHAM

The Partnership for a Healthy Durham is a coalition of local organizations and community members with the goal of collaboratively improving the physical, mental, and social health and well-being of Durham’s residents.  The Partnership has five committees that focus on a Durham County health priority and communications, which are led by our Steering committee.  There are currently more than 500 active members in the Partnership.  Committees meet monthly.  All meetings (except for Steering Committee which is for Partnership leadership only) are open to the public.

DURHAM COUNTY JAIL

(mental health initiative) Dr. Megan Pruette, Psychiatry (megan.pruette@duke.edu), her work involves helping CJRC better understand the patterns of recidivism among offenders that are mentally ill and to assess whether access to mental health services improve patterns of recidivism.

DURHAM CRISIS RESPONSE CENTER (DCRC)

DCRC works with the community to end domestic and sexual violence through advocacy, education, support, and prevention.  

DURHAM FARM AND FOOD NETWORK

The Durham Farm and Food Network is a grassroots, county-wide collaborative group of diverse, committed, and engaged residents and organizations.  Their mission is to use a whole systems approach to create partnerships, develop policy, educate, and advocate for improvements to the local food system to encourage a healthy community, environmental stewardship, and economic development.

LOCAL ACCESS TO COORDINATED HEALTH CARE (L.A.T.C.H.) - DUKEHEALTH 

Local Access to Coordinated Healthcare (LATCH) is a program of the Population Health Management Office, Duke Health System.  It provides services to uninsured and underinsured Durham County residents.  LATCH works to improve enrollees’ health, improve access to care, and increase appropriate use of health services through a combination of bilingual outreach, care management, health education, service enhancement, and systems change.  With its community partners, LATCH recognizes health care trends, identifies barriers confronting uninsured patients, and, working as a consortium, addresses and eliminates access barriers.

THE DUKE BENEFIT ENROLLMENT CENTER (BEC

The Duke Benefit Enrollment Center help low-income people with Medicare access programs that pay for healthcare, food, connection to local resources and more.  Using web-based tools and person-centered approaches, the BECs help low-income seniors and persons with disabilities find and enroll in all the benefits programs for which they are eligible, and create coordinated, community-wide system of benefits access.

TRIANGLE EMPOWERMENT CENTER

1415 Holloway Street, Durham, NC 27703.
A local nonprofit community-based organization that serves the Durham, Raleigh, Chapel Hill, and the surrounding area.  This organization mainly focuses on minority rural health disparities. They also hold events for our regular clients.
Events are divided into three categories:  fun social events, educational events, and volunteering.  They offer things like bowling, movies, dinners, game nights, dancing, mini-golf, beach trips, retreats, cook outs, volunteering, seminars, workshops, etc.   Events are drug free and alcohol free.  This program may also offer opportunities to help with the PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) program.
