School of Medicine Celebrates Juneteenth

Duke University School of Medicine’s Black employee resource group, called ME2, held its third annual Juneteenth celebration on June 20. The event featured keynote speaker Damon Tweedy, MD, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Duke.

Traveling Mural Symbolizes Connection within Duke’s Asian American and Pacific Islander Community

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. The Duke Asian American and Pacific Islander Affinity Group will kick off a month of celebrations with the unveiling of a unique traveling mural at Duke Regional Hospital on May 3. The unveiling is the culmination of several events that brought together employees from across Duke, symbolizing the sense of belonging and inclusiveness that the affinity group strives to create.

Duke-NCCU Partnership Honored with NIH Prize for Excellence in Diversity and Research

Duke University and North Carolina Central University recently received the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Institutional Excellence in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) in Biomedical and Behavioral Research Prize. The two schools were jointly awarded a $100,000 prize for demonstrating exceptional dedication and innovation in fostering DEIA within research environments. 

Medical Spanish Course Recognized at National Competition

A student-led presentation on the Medical Spanish Course at Duke won second place in a poster competition at the Joint National Meeting for the Medical Organization for Latino Advancement (MOLA) and the National Association of Medical Spanish.
