SOM New Faculty Orientation
Registration is open for the annual School of Medicine Academic New Faculty Orientation (NFO)!
Join us on October 13, 8am-5pm in the Great Hall of the Trent Semans Center.
Who should attend? Orientation is open to all faculty, but we especially encourage those hired in the past 1-3 years to attend if they have not already.
Internal Applications Open for ELAM 2026-2027
The internal application process is now open for the EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP IN ACADEMIC MEDICINE (ELAM) fellowship program.
ELAM Applications Coming Soon
Applications are coming soon for the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine® (ELAM®) program. ELAM is a year-long part-time fellowship for faculty in schools of medicine, dentistry, public health and pharmacy. The program is dedicated to developing the professional and personal skills required to lead and manage in today's complex health care environment. More than 1,600 ELAM alumni hold leadership positions in institutions around the world.
Available AAMC Faculty Development Programs
The AAMC has several upcoming development opportunities that may be of interest to School of Medicine faculty and staff. These offerings complement internal programs and are led by expert facilitators who understand the academic medicine environment. Programs from the AAMC have received strong feedback from past participants.
New Group Coaching Sessions for Faculty
In an effort to support our community during this time of uncertainty and rapid change, the School of Medicine Office for Faculty will be offering free virtual group coaching sessions for faculty members.
Registration Open: Summer Faculty Development Events
Registration is open for a summer professional development programs offered by the Office for Faculty. Topics include:
- Advanced negotiation techniques
- Work-life integration (co-sponsored by the Office of Culture, Engagement, and Impact)
- Navigating organizational politics
- Faculty group coaching (coming soon!)
Most sessions are held on campus and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Material will target School of Medicine faculty members.

Office for Faculty hosts Duke-NUS delegation
The School of Medicine Office for Faculty, along with the Office of Duke-NUS Affairs, was honored to host a delegation from Duke-NUS Office of Academic Medicine (OAM), Appointments and Development Department (ADD) March 24-26, 2025. Duke-NUS faculty and staff met with faculty affairs leaders from across the School of Medicine to learn about programs and practices and to share opportunities for partnership.
