Applications Open: Fund to Retain Clinical Scientists

The Office of Physician Scientist Development (OPSD) is now accepting applications for the 2026 Fund to Retain Clinical Scientists (FRCS) award. These awards aim to help junior faculty members with the challenge of working to establish academic careers while simultaneously managing significant caregiving responsibilities. The Fund will provide two awards of $30,000 each to physician-scientists with significant caregiving responsibilities.

Duke Clinical Leadership Program (DCLP) - Applications are open!

The Duke Clinical Leadership Program (DCLP) provides participants insights into health system operations and strategy, opportunities for networking and skill development, and application of concepts, all of which expand leadership capacity within Duke Health.   Target Audience: Mid-career Duke faculty members with clinical responsibilities who are in, headed for, or aspiring to leadership roles.

Mentor Training Workshops

Effective mentoring of trainees and early career faculty is a professional responsibility, and the Office for Faculty is pleased to offer a mentor training program to help equip both novice and experienced mentors with tools and resources to improve mentor-mentee experiences.  Fall 2025 Foundational Mentor Training

Nominations open for Duke Health MLK Humanitarian Award

Nominations are now open for the Duke Health Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award. Nominations will be accepted through October 20. The award honors the life and legacy of Dr. King, recognizing individuals or teams who have gone above and beyond in their selfless dedication to achieving Duke Health’s mission. Winners will be recognized at a special ceremony in January 2026.

SOM New Faculty Orientation

Registration is open for the annual School of Medicine Academic New Faculty Orientation (NFO)!  Join us on October 13, 8am-5pm in the Great Hall of the Trent Semans Center.  Who should attend? Orientation is open to all faculty, but we especially encourage those hired in the past 1-3 years to attend if they have not already. 

ELAM Applications Coming Soon

Applications are coming soon for the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine® (ELAM®) program. ELAM is a year-long part-time fellowship for faculty in schools of medicine, dentistry, public health and pharmacy. The program is dedicated to developing the professional and personal skills required to lead and manage in today's complex health care environment. More than 1,600 ELAM alumni hold leadership positions in institutions around the world.
