The internal application process is now open for the EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP IN ACADEMIC MEDICINE (ELAM) fellowship program.

ELAM is an excellent, well-established 1-year part-time fellowship that prepares faculty to take on executive-level leadership roles in academic medicine, dentistry and public health. ELAM participation takes significant personal and institutional commitment, which must be demonstrated during the application process.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must have held the rank of associate professor for at least two years, and have administrative experience in personnel and budget management.
  • Institutions are limited in the number of faculty they can nominate, and there is an internal selection process to identify the 1-2 Duke applicants.
  • All qualified applicants will be considered.

Internal Selection Process:

  • If you would like to be considered as a Duke nominee, submit a letter of intent and CV to facdev@dm.duke.edu no later than 11:59pm on Sunday, August 18, 2025.
  • ELAM applicants will need the support of executive leadership in the School of Medicine as well as their department chair. ELAM looks for applicants with very clear institutional backing, so any evidence you can provide of your pathway toward a significant institutional leadership role will be reviewed favorably by the committee.
  • A selection committee, in consultation with the Vice Dean for Faculty, will choose the 1-2 Duke applicants in mid-September.
