The following are potential scholarships available to PA students, both within North Carolina and nationally. All information is subject to change, and the Duke PA Program is not affiliated with any of these scholarship opportunities.

  • The North Carolina Forgivable Education Loans for Service Program. Established by the North Carolina General Assembly in 2011, the Forgivable Education Loans for Service provides financial assistance to qualified students enrolled in an approved education program and committed to working in critical employment shortage professions in North Carolina. The North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority provides administration for the program. Additional information may be located at cfnc.org/FELS.
  • The U.S. Public Health Service has several programs that offer scholarships, stipends and loan repayment to PA students who commit to varying periods of employment in medically underserved settings. Information on these programs may be obtained by or visiting National Health Service Corps (NHSC). One program offered by the U.S. Public Health Service is the National Health Service Corps Scholarship Program. NHSC scholars receive full tuition and fee reimbursement as well as a monthly stipend throughout their education, in return for 2 years of service in a site recognized as medically underserved by the National Health Service Corps. Duke NHSC scholars have practiced following graduation in a variety of settings, including rural clinics and inner-city practices.
  • In the past 15 years, 54 Duke students have been awarded scholarships to attend the PA Program through the NHSC. We strongly urge PA applicants to consider application to the NHSC program.

  • Individual State Information-Grants and Guaranty Agencies
  • Employment: Due to the rigors of the curriculum, the majority of students find it difficult or impossible to work. In efforts to promote satisfactory academic progression, the program strongly discourages students from working. Student employment may jeopardize one’s ability to remain in satisfactory academic standing and to successfully complete the program. Part-time employment over breaks and holidays is at the discretion of the student, however, students may not perform any medical tasks or procedures under the auspices of their role as Duke PA students.
