School of Medicine Bulletin

The School of Medicine Bulletin is an annual publication produced by the Office of the University Registrar, whose contents are established by the school in conjunction with the Duke University Bulletins Policy.

It serves as a static document for historical records of the university. The university reserves the right to change programs of study, academic requirements, teaching staff, the calendar, and other matters described herein without prior notice, per established procedures.

2.1.1  Scholarships for Presentations and Leadership Responsibilities at Professional Conferences

Students seeking to develop as leaders in the profession of occupational therapy may apply for an OTD Conference Scholarship if they meet one of these three eligibility requirements:

      1. Students selected through the conference juried process to present a paper at a conference related to occupational therapy. Conferences eligible for scholarships include NCOTA, AOTA, SSO, Education Summit, and WFOT.
      2. Student selected by SOTA as the SOTA Duke student delegate at AOTA.
      3. A student who holds an elected position as an AOTA national delegate serves as a leader with duties at the conference.
      4. Students who are in Good Academic Standing may apply for scholarships for one conference during the program.

Students may be reimbursed for registration, travel, lodging, or food up to $200.

All scholarship applicants must:
1) Submit this application
2) Be in Good Academic Standing
3) Attest to following the policies set forth by Duke Finance regarding travel and reimbursement

Added elective course:

OTD 626

Occupations in the NICU elective will combine classroom time, NICU exposure labs as well as self-study. You will learn about theories and practices that form the foundation of occupational therapy's role in the NICU.  The course will provide a deeper focus in the occupations of infants born prematurely including sleep, feeding, sensory, and state. You will also incorporate occupations of the parents as caregivers including handling, bonding, and interactions. You will learn the importance of family centered care, trauma informed care, and maternal mental health.
