Industry-Sponsored Clinical Trials Bootcamp

Overview 

The Duke School of Medicine Industry-Sponsored Clinical Trials Bootcamp is designed to strengthen Duke’s capacity to conduct high-quality, industry-sponsored research. This program supports emerging investigators by combining structured education, practical insights, and mentorship from experienced clinical researchers. 

Enrollment for the first cohort is currently closed. Future offerings are anticipated; additional details on timing and format will be shared when available.

  • 6 Cohort-based sessions (open to bootcamp cohort only, format may vary in future offerings) 

Industry-Sponsored Clinical Research Fundamentals Online Modules

This is a seven-part online module series designed to equip PIs with the foundational knowledge and practical skills needed to lead industry-sponsored clinical trials with confidence. While tailored for faculty, these modules offer valuable insights for any study team member navigating the complexities of industry partnerships. 

Introduction to Industry-Sponsored Clinical Research 
This module lays the groundwork for understanding the unique landscape of industry-sponsored clinical trials.

This module outlines key players in an industry-sponsored clinical trial and how they work together.

Feasibility and Study Start-Up 
This module covers how PIs can assess whether a trial is a viable fit for their site and how to navigate industry systems, contracts, and institutional approvals.

Financial Oversight 
This module explores the PI’s role in ensuring that industry-sponsored trials remain financially sustainable while maintaining institutional integrity through compliant billing practices.

This module reviews the importance of strict protocol adherence and safety management in industry-sponsored trials.

Who It’s For 

Duke School of Medicine and School of Nursing faculty members interested in building or expanding an industry-sponsored research portfolio.  

Program Outcomes 

Participants are expected to leave the program with the knowledge and skills to contribute meaningfully to industry-sponsored trials. Prior program expectations included engagement as a site PI or sub-investigator within one year of completion.
