Overview

The OneDukebio Integrated biospecimen Network (ODIN) is a shared resource created in 2021 that provides full-service biospecimen allocation and management. This state-of-the-art centralized biorepository follows biobanking best practices and operates under Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) guidelines to ensure the integrity of specimens.

Available Services

ODIN provides storage of blood, body fluids, and tissue at temperatures of room temperature, 4°C, -80°C, -150°C and in liquid nitrogen vapor phase. ODIN has controlled access, alarm systems for each freezer, a back-up generator, and redundant temperature control systems.

Equipment and Facilities

ODIN is located in the Snyderman Building (Genome Science Research Building I) on the medical campus of Duke University (595 LaSalle St, Durham, NC), occupying approximately 3000 square feet and in MSRBIII. Rooms housing freezers are equipped with alarm systems for each freezer, emergency power, and two-fold redundant environmental control systems (air conditioning). Access to the facility is controlled by magnetic card-activated door locks, ensuring sample security, confidentiality, and GCLP compliance.

Getting Started

Our Study Implementation Group offers consultations to help new users meet specific biobanking needs. The consultation process maximizes project productivity and success, while ensuring appropriate subject protections, integration with analytic technologies, standardization of materials and methods, specimen and data integrity and security, and process efficiencies. The Study Implementation Group can assist with patient ascertainment, IRB issues, sample handling and storage, analytic technologies, informatics, data management and analysis, and budget development. ODIN provides these services solely to IRB-approved researchers.
