PGC Announces Student Pilot Grant Awardees

The Duke University School of Medicine Office of Biomedical and Graduate Education (OBGE) and Precision Genomics Collaboratory awarded 14 pilot grants of $2,000 each to SOM Biomedical PhD students. The goal of these grants is to support our students in scientific and educational efforts to bolster their graduate training experiences. These awards will help further research in a broad array of topics including single cell sequencing, changes in the brain due to drug use, and RNA sequencing. It will also help cover costs to attend courses and conferences around the world.

Simon Gregory among School of Medicine’s 2024 Distinguished Professors

This spring, 18 faculty members in the Duke University School of Medicine have been awarded distinguished professorships. The new distinguished professors will be honored at the annual distinguished professorship event on May 23.    In total, 32 new distinguished professors across Duke University were approved by the Board of Trustees in February.  Distinguished professorships are awarded to faculty who have demonstrated extraordinary scholarship in advancing science and improving human health.   

19th Annual DPT 5K Run & Walk: April 13

Registration is now open for the Duke DPT 19th Annual 5K! The event brings the community together and raises funds for a terrific cause. This year's race will occur on April 13 at 10:00 a.m. on the Duke East Campus Loop.

GPSG/ Non-Clinical SoM Council (NCSOMC)

The Non-clinical School of Medicine Graduate Student Council (NCSOMC) at Recruitment: Supporting OBGE efforts to recruit new graduate students is a key priority of The Non-clinical School of Medicine Graduate Student Council. It is aligned with our goals of promoting inclusion and ensuring that prospective students are aware of student-led support systems awaiting them at Duke.  The council was present for all OBGE-hosted recruit visits, represented by three council members - Bukenya, Carlo and Sunag.

APTA-Backed Legislation Beefs Up Falls Screening, Prevention by PTs in Medicare

The bipartisan House bill would explicitly refer to PT falls-related services in Medicare's "welcome" visit and annual wellness checks.  The physical therapy community has long understood that the best way to reduce the impact of fall-related injuries in older adults is to prevent them from happening in the first place.
