Permar Receives Presidential Early Career Award and SPR Young Investigator Award

Sallie Permar, M.D., Ph.D., was named a recipient of the Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers in recognition of innovative research. It is the highest honor bestowed by the United States government. The White House listed Dr. Permar among 102 researchers who will receive the awards. Dr. Permar is an associate professor of pediatrics and an assistant professor in immunology, molecular genetics and microbiology.

School of Medicine launches Duke Molecular Physiology Institute

In July, the Duke University School of Medicine launched the Duke Molecular Physiology Institute, led by Christopher Newgard, Ph.D., the W. David and Sarah W. Stedman Distinguished Professor. Dr. Newgard is a professor in the Department of Medicine and Pharmacology and Cancer Biology and has served as director of the Sarah W. Stedman Nutrition and Metabolism Center since March 2002. Health Professions Schools Launch New Academy for Faculty Educators

Duke’s health professions schools, including the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, and Physician Assistant and Physical Therapy programs, have partnered to launch a new academy to develop an inter-professional community of educators at Duke. Under the leadership of Edward Buckley, M.D., Vice Dean for Education, Duke University School of Medicine, Duke’s new Academy for Health Professions Education and Academic Development (Duke AHEAD) was created to advance excellence in education and to provide a mechanism for recognizing and supporting Duke’s teaching faculty.
