Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF) Research Technician Support RFA
This RFA is now open and will close May 15, 2019.
The intent of the BWF Technician Support RFA is to promote early career research productivity and continuity for residents, fellows, and junior faculty by providing $25,000 to cover a portion of effort of a laboratory technician or research assistant to be dedicated to the applicant's research project. Eligible applicants will be conducting basic or translational research (laboratory or computational biology).

Duke Co-Leads International Research Effort to Develop Syphilis Vaccine
A new international, multi-university center co-led by the Duke Human Vaccine Institute and the University of Connecticut aims to develop a vaccine for syphilis.
The Cooperative Research Center is funded with a five-year, $11 million grant from the National Institutes of Health.

Joanna Downer, PhD, associate dean for research development in the School of Medicine, has been named a 2019 Rising Star by the National Organization of Research Development Professionals (NORDP). The organization recognizes up to three members annually who have made outstanding volunteer contributions and show great potential for future contributions to the organization and the research development profession. Downer was recognized at the annual conference on May 1.

Nine faculty members in the School of Medicine have been awarded distinguished professorships by Duke University. The honors were presented at a dinner on May 2, 2019.
