Since 2015, the Office of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion has hosted its "Conversation on Race" series, where faculty, students and staff from throughout the School of Medicine discuss issues from privilege to the enduring challenges of building a moral economy. Close to 500 members of the School of Medicine have attended these events, gathering hundreds of reflections, recommendations, and strategies.
Starting in 2020, Dean Mary Klotman held a series of conversations with our staff, graduate students and postdoctoral associates, faculty, and health professions students about the School's plans to dismantle systematic racism and make the School an equitable, anti-racist institutions for all its members. - April 2017 - Continuing the Conversation on Race - Privilege - Courtney Cailoa, PhD, MPH, RN, led a presentation on what it means to have privilege based on race, and led a discussion afterward with Dean Andrews, Reese, and Seidenstein.
- March 2017 - Race, Place, and Community - Author Emily Rabateaou and Left of Black's Anthony Neal discussed race as social constructs as well as the difficulty encountered by people who do not neatly fit into easily set categories.March 2015 - the first Conversation on Race featured more than 100 learners, staff and faculty from the School of Medicine. - September 2015 - Continuing the Conversation on Race - Featured Nancy C. Andrews, MD, PhD, Dean of the School of Medicine, Ben Reese, PsyD, Vice President of the Office of Institutional Equity, Duke University, and Judy Seidenstein, Chief Diversity Officer, School of Medicine
