School of Medicine welcomes science and technology recruits

In alignment with Duke University’s commitment to advance science and technology research, the School of Medicine, with support from The Duke Endowment, has recruited four new faculty members with wide-ranging expertise in infectious disease, immunology, genomics, and neurobiology. 

School of Medicine Research Week 2020 highlights innovative discoveries

More than 700 Duke faculty, staff and students attended lectures and the poster session during School of Medicine Research Week 2020, held virtually October 5-8. Research Week aims to showcase basic, clinical and translational research from Duke faculty speakers, invited speakers, and students.

Call for Applications for Fund to Retain Clinical Scientists at Duke

The School of Medicine Office for Faculty, in partnership with the Office of Physician-Scientist Development, is now accepting applications for the Fund to Retain Clinical Scientists at Duke. Established by a grant from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and supported by Dean Mary Klotman, the Fund provides supplements of up to $30,000-$50,000 to clinician-scientists with significant caregiving responsibilities. Supplements are for 1 year, with the possible option to apply for a second year.

Congratulations Duke Clinical Leadership 2020 Graduates

Congratulations to the 25 School of Medicine and Duke Health faculty who graduated from the 2020 Duke Clinical Leadership Program (DCLP) on 9/22/20! DCLP was founded by the Chancellor for Health Affairs in 2010 to help expand leadership capacity within Duke Health. Program fellows participate in a 6-month curriculum designed to deepen awareness of healthcare operations and develop individual leadership skills.  The program is supported by the Chancellor Eugene Washington and run by the School of Medicine Office for Faculty.

Most women have low knowledge of state abortion laws and perpetuate myths

Most women of child-bearing age who responded to a national survey were unfamiliar with their state’s abortion laws and commonly repeated abortion myths, according to a study led by Duke Health and University of North Carolina researchers.  The findings, appearing online this month in the journal Contraception, suggest that inaccurate knowledge of abortion laws could be an additional barrier to care in environments that are hostile toward abortion.
