Class Vice President Shawn Armstrong received the Helen Kaiser Alumni Award at a celebration honoring the 2023 graduates. He has demonstrated leadership within the Class of 2023, the School of Medicine, and as part of the American Physical Therapy (APTA) Student Assembly.

New Grads Join a Rich Duke Legacy
Members of the Class of 2023 were hooded Saturday, May 13, earning their doctorates in a special ceremony held at the Washington Duke Inn. It marked the 79th class to graduate from the Duke physical therapy program.
“As you celebrate your accomplishments today, think about how now you are now part of the Duke DPT legacy, “ said Division Chief Todd Cade. “Not many programs have as rich of a history and legacy as we do.”

Nicholle Lewis received the Jan Gwyer Student Recognition Award for Academic, Clinical, and Scholarly Excellence at a ceremony honoring the 2023 graduates.
Morria Heilman Receives the Robert Bartlett Student Recognition Award
Morria Heilman received the 2023 Robert Bartlett Student Recognition Award for Service and Leadership Excellence at a ceremony honoring the 2023 graduates.
Dr. Heilman was class treasurer and chair of service and philanthropy. She worked as a graduate assistant and as an interview day volunteer. She also served as the Allied Health Representative on the Duke University Judicial Board for one year and as a mentor for the Duke F1rsts Program, a network for first-generation graduate students.
Duke OTD Holds Inaugural Commissioning Ceremony
On May 5, the OTD 2024 inaugural class was commissioned into service as fieldwork and capstone students. Thirty-eight OTD 2024 students were joined by family, friends, faculty, and staff at the Grand Hall of the Trent Semans Center. Students will spend the next year completing two 12-week fieldwork assignments and 14 weeks executing capstone projects.

From interacting with visiting professor, Shawn Roll, OTR/L, RMSKS, FAOTA, FAIUM, to poster and podium presentations, the Occupational Therapy Doctorate program infused vital topics into Departmental Research Day conversations.
Emily D’Agostino, DrPH, MS, Med, MA, presented “Feasibility of Going Places: A Park‐based Active Transportation Toolbox to Promote Youth Physical Activity and Access to Healthy Community Spaces.”
