Duke invests in students’ health through new wearables initiative

Swamy named Vice Dean and Associate Vice Provost for Scientific Integrity

Geeta Swamy, MD, has been named vice dean and associate vice provost for scientific integrity for Duke University and the School of Medicine. Dr. Swamy will begin her service in this new role, effective immediately.  Dr. Swamy previously served as senior associate dean for regulatory oversight & research initiatives in clinical research for the School of Medicine. She is an associate professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a member of the Duke Human Vaccine Institute. 

DCRI and Duke Genomics Center Receive $9 Million Grant

The Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI), in concert with the Duke Center for Applied Genomics and Precision Medicine, will serve as the coordinating center for a new project to promote genomic medicine in clinical practice. The National Human Genome Research Institute, which is part of National Institutes of Health, has awarded two grants to Duke that will total about $9 million over five years.

Nov. 1 Duke-Wide Research Town Hall featuring Big Data and Environmental Health

  The next event in the new Research Town Hall series will take place Nov 1. As part of this event, Dr. Larry Carin, Vice Provost for Research, will give an overview of opportunities and initiatives at Duke related to “big data” and data science, a landscape that has grown considerably at Duke in recent years. Duke College Advising Corps is a Win-Win for Aspiring Physicians

Two current Duke medical students participated in the College Advising Corps before applying to medical school. Working as a doctor and serving as a college adviser may seem like very different careers, but Evan Murray, T’17, sees quite a few parallels.  “Much like patients seeking care,” Murray said, “students who come into our office are seeking guidance through a very complicated process, and our responsibility is to break it down in a way that fits their needs and helps them make the right choices.” 

How Duke is Modernizing the Clinical Research Workforce

A team of Duke authors, including lead author Rebecca Brouwer and senior author Denise Snyder, have been selected to receive the Rod Rose Award for best article in the Journal of Research Administration, 2017.
