How To Avoid or Prevent Plagiarism?

The most recent Town Hall on Plagiarism and Intellectual Credit organized by ASIST and the Duke Office of Scientific Integrity was attended by about 190 members of the Duke community. The event is part of a monthly series intended to serve as a public space for interactive discussion, meant to contribute to a cultural shift where research integrity is fostered at all levels and in all aspects of research.

Shashi to accept Top Ten Clinical Research Achievement Award on behalf of UDN

The Clinical Research (CR) Forum will honor ten outstanding clinical research studies, including The Undiagnosed Diseases Network (UDN), at the 2019 Top Ten Clinical Research Achievement Awards at the National Press Club on March 5, 2019 in Washington, DC. Vandana Shashi, MBBS, MD, professor of pediatrics in the Division of Medical Genetics and principal investigator for the UDN at Duke, has been nominated to accept the award on behalf of the entire UDN.

Interhospital Transfer Linked to Treatment Delays, Worse Outcomes in Stroke Patients

Endovascular therapy (EVT) presents a good chance of saving stroke patients’ lives, but because the treatment is not available at every hospital, many patients must transfer hospitals before they can receive this chance. New research published in Circulation indicates that stroke patients who undergo interhospital transfer experience longer delays before receiving endovascular therapy and have worse outcomes.

As a boy growing up in Schenectady, New York, Steven Patierno, PhD, could often be found out in the woods performing surgery on frogs, when he wasn’t playing sandlot soccer or a local, slightly more “aggressive” version of capture the flag.  “I always knew I wanted to be a scientist, even before I knew what a scientist was,” shared the deputy director of Duke Cancer Institute.  As a teen, he was into marine biology and gradually took up scuba diving — even volunteering with the Woodshole Oceanographic Institute following whales transiting Nantucket Sound.

Susanna Naggie, MD, associate professor of medicine and member of the Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI), has been named associate dean for clinical research initiatives and regulatory affairs for the School of Medicine, effective as of February 1, 2019. Mary E. Klotman, MD, dean, Duke University School of Medicine, made the announcement today.
