How to Nominate Someone

The Duke University School of Medicine’s Office for Culture, Engagement, and Impact established the Michelle P. Winn Inclusive Excellence Award in 2016 to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to inclusive excellence within the School of Medicine community. This award is presented annually to individuals in our School who exemplify a commitment to excellence, innovation, and leadership.

Any member of the School of Medicine may submit a nomination for the award, and we invite and encourage you to do so. The nominations review committee will use selection criteria to determine awardees from each of these categories: staff, learner, faculty, and team. The entry should include specific examples as outlined in the nomination prompts below.

Nomination Prompts:

  • What specific actions has the nominee taken to enhance inclusive excellence or to reduce healthcare disparities?
  • Describe how the nominee has demonstrated mentorship of peers, colleagues, or learners.
  • Provide examples of how the nominee has demonstrated effective leadership within Duke SoM (department/center/institute, etc.).
  • Provide specific instances of when the nominee engaged in community activities that helped improve healthcare or health outcomes in underserved communities, and what those improved services or outcomes were.
  • Share examples of the nominee’s innovative approaches to foster culture, engagement, and impact.

Nominations must be submitted to the Office for Culture, Engagement, and Impact no later than February 17, 2026.
