Workplace stressors are at alarming levels, particularly as we face the convergence of a global pandemic, racially motivated acts of violence, divisive politics, and workforce shortages. To combat burnout and compassion fatigue, research suggests specific training in practices of cooperative work, effective communication, conflict resolution, and collective problem solving to build connection, understanding, and appreciation. Restorative Justice (RJ) is an ethical framework that focuses on building community through exactly these means—through shared values of respect, compassion and inclusivity put into practice. This interactive workshop will explore how Restorative Justice and Restorative Practices are a potential means of shifting the work culture so everyone can thrive.
The School of Medicine Office for Faculty invites you to attend one of two upcoming workshops on Restorative Practices.
Participants in these workshops will:
- Learn about Restorative Justice as a framework for building community and repairing harm
- Experience the power of RJ through participation in hands-on activities
- Consider ways Restorative Practices could impact their communities
- Develop a plan to apply lessons learned after the session
Registration is required. Sessions will cover the same material, so you only need to register for one date.
Target audience: All School of Medicine faculty are welcome to attend. These workshops will be applicable to individuals in both basic and clinical science departments. To get the most from the session, we encourage you to invite a colleague or small group of colleagues from your unit to attend with you. While this is not required, it will increase your capacity to apply what you learned after the session.
About the speaker: Ada Gregory, MA, is the Associate Director of the Kenan Institute for Ethics; an experienced leader in equity, diversity, and violence prevention; and a well-known RJ practitioner.
