New for Fall 2020: The Basic Science Research Track (BSRT)
Preparing physician-scientists for discovery science careers. New courses include successfully competing for research funding, overseeing a laboratory, effectively communicating science and using machine learning for health. This program is designed primarily for medical fellows and other health professionals who are training for academic careers.

Recent School of Medicine graduates win 2020 Weintraub Awards
Two former Duke graduate students are the recipients of the 2020 Harold M. Weintraub Graduate Student Award, which recognizes outstanding achievement during graduate studies in the biological sciences. Victoria Deneke and Nandan Gokhale, both whom graduated from Duke in 2019, were announced by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center today as recipients of the annual international award.
Cade Named Division Chief for Duke Doctor of Physical Therapy Program
W. Todd Cade, PT, PhD, associate director of Postdoctoral Fellowships, Program in Physical Therapy & Department of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine, has been named division chief of the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program in the Duke University School of Medicine. Dr. Cade will begin his new role in July.

These awards support investigators at every career stage who are interested in conducting research which promotes health equity. There are three funding opportunities:
Research Vouchers Program will supplement currently funded research, or support standalone research projects conducted by faculty at any level, broadly related to the Duke Center for Research to Advance Healthcare Equity theme, and completed over one year. Funding: One year up to $12,500 per award.
Duke CTSI Doubles Space at NC Research Campus for Translational Population Health Research Center, Home of MURDOCK Study
With a grateful nod to the past and a bright eye on the future, the Duke Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) officially opened its expanded space Wednesday on the North Carolina Research Campus.
Duke doubled its presence on the campus to 10,100 square feet, all of it home to the Translational Population Health Research Center, or “TransPop.”

Duke Medical Student Jenna Armstrong Named Gates-Cambridge Scholar
Duke University medical student Jenna Armstrong is among 28 U.S. recipients selected for a Gates-Cambridge Scholarship.
The scholarship covers a student’s tuition and living expenses while completing a graduate degree at the University of Cambridge. Armstrong, who graduated from Bates College in 2015, is Duke’s 14th Gates-Cambridge Scholar.
