Getting Started

Duke researches are granted access to a SRCC cluster by approval of their PI to a specific account/project with an appropriate fund code/cost center.

Accounts are created as Policy Groups in OIT’s Group Manager application. Every unique project and/or lab (depending on funding source/research project) are assigned a unique account name/ID. This account is used to create a unique Slurm account (required to access the cluster); a unique project folder on the cluster, and for invoicing.

In order to access the cluster via the account, all users must:

  • Have official approval by the PI responsible for the account to be added to the account in both the OIT Policy Group (Group Manager) AND for the Slurm account.
  • Have a DHE Active Directory account (or sponsored DHE Account https://oit.duke.edu/service/sponsored-accounts/
  • If remote, use the DUHS VPN  (vpn.duhs.duke.edu)
  • Register your device to which you are accessing the cluster with the DUHS Network Access Control (NAC)  https://nac.dhts.duke.edu/nac-vpn

Upon assignment of an account, each project will be provided a unique Project Folder on the cluster, whether on-premises or cloud, to which only the members of the project account can access.

Request Account

Researchers wishing to use any of the SRCC resources/clusters should submit a request via ServiceNow. Once a request is received, SRCC staff will schedule a consultation to determine the most appropriate cluster for use; i.e., on-premises or cloud-based, and the design needed. If additional computing resources are needed, SRCC staff will work with vendors to provide quotes for lease or purchase of equipment- again, both for on-premises or cloud based.

Request Compute

Data must be imported/uploaded to the targeted /project directory on the respective clusters for use.  Users are responsible for importing/uploading (and removing) their data to their respective project directories. The SRCC staff is not responsible for data imports or exports; however, after initial training is provided, the staff are available to assist with data imports (and exports) for an hourly “consultation” fee.

Any data to be exported to a public repository must meet the requirements for the public repository, as well as data sharing guidelines provided by Duke Health.  The Office of Scientific Integrity at Duke University (DOSI) has a data management and sharing plan review and compliance procedure. Consistent with the procedure, the Office will monitor compliance with the DMS plan, including the deposition of award relevant scientific data into the selected data repository, through attestation of the principal investigator(s) listed on the award at milestone reporting periods. The University will also leverage its internal audit function for periodic review of study team adherence with DMS elements.
