Dr. Johnson attended North Carolina Central University where he completed his bachelor's degree in athletic training. He received his Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his PhD in Health Education from William Carey University.

Dr. Johnson is a board-certified clinical specialist in Sports Physical Therapy. His clinical focus is primarily in orthopaedics and sports medicine. He also has a keen interest in social determinants of health as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion. He is an APTA-credentialed clinical instructor, and the physical therapy clinician for the Duke School of Medicine Interprofessional Education (IPE) clinic.
