Research Staff Appreciation Award in Basic Science Research

Linda Hong, Research Analyst II, Center for Genomic and Computational Biology
“Linda is fearless in picking up new protocols, and shows enthusiasm for always thinking of ways to improve the throughput and reproducibility of these protocols. She has been creative and systematic about developing and maintaining a work schedule to successfully accomplish all data production milestones outlined in our project. She has shown leadership in successfully recruiting and managing individuals in the lab to help with different aspects of the project. Linda is always highly responsive to new requests, and is someone that Tim, myself and other investigators on the project can trust to complete experiments on time and in a high quality manner.” Gregory Crawford, PhD, Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and Associate Director of the Center for Genomic and Computational Biology

Research Staff Appreciation Award in Translational Research

Peter Saloupis, Laboratory Research Analyst, Department of Ophthalmology
“Peter Saloupis is an exceptional individual who has truly been an "unsung hero" to so many of us here at the Duke Eye Center. The thread of his career has been integral to the fabric of our Department for over 30 years, and he has contributed in a myriad of ways, as our research program has transformed from a small group of investigators to the robust multidisciplinary research environment of the Albert Eye Research Institute. Without question, our Department and our faculty have benefitted from his many contributions.”  Dr. Scott Cousins, Robert Machemer, MD, Professor of Ophthalmology and Immunology and Vice Chair for Research in the Duke Eye Center

Research Staff Appreciation Award in Clinical Research

Leslie Willis, MS, Clinical Research Coordinator II, Duke Molecular Physiology Institute
“Leslie has all the character traits that are important for being an "award winning" research team member. She is intelligent with the desire to learn new things. She is always reliable and willing to help other team members whenever she can. Leslie cares about her research participants and she wants the best for them, and her participants really care about Leslie. She has a great attitude toward people, about the importance of the research she is involved in and about growing in her job.  . . . I can say without reservation that she has been a major part of the overall success of the Kraus team and she has been a real joy to work with.”  Cris Slentz, PhD, Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine and a member of the Duke Molecular Physiology Institute
