Congratulations to the 24 School of Medicine and Duke Health faculty who graduated from the 2019 Duke Clinical Leadership Program (DCLP) last week! DCLP was founded by the Chancellor for Health Affairs in 2010 to help expand leadership capacity within Duke Health. Program fellows participate in a 6-month curriculum designed to deepen awareness of healthcare operations and develop individual leadership skills. The program is supported by the Chancellor Eugene Washington and run by the School of Medicine Office for Faculty.
“This program is a fantastic opportunity for emerging clinical leaders to hone their own leadership and management skills and connect with institutional leaders from across Duke Health,” said Cary Ward, MD, Faculty Director of the program.
Program fellows were assigned to one of four institutional projects sponsored by Duke Health leaders. Group work and project deliverables were evaluated by a selection committee and the highest rated team was presented with the inaugural Thomas Gorrie Clinical Leadership Impact Award.
The winning team’s project focused on optimizing the provider experience in Maestro Care, a continuation of work started by a previous DCLP project group. Group members were Richard Duncan, MD – Obstetrics and Gynecology, Aatif Husain, MD – Neurology, Negmeldeen “Najm” Mamoun, MD – Anesthesiology, Sara Page, MD – Pediatrics, Lei Ren, PhD – Radiation Oncology, and Daniella Zipkin, MD – General Internal Medicine.
The other projects were:
- Duke Scheduling Partnership for Interprofessional Clinical Education (D-SPICE)
- Communication of Major Strategic Issues to DUHS Providers
- Developing a Structure for Quality Improvement Education for Duke Health
“All of the program fellows did a tremendous job developing their skills as teams and working to move these ideas through a highly matrixed system,” Ward said. “Each of them should be commended for their contributions, with special congratulations to the inaugural Gorrie Award Winners.”
