Incorporating a Racial Equity Lens through the 5Ws Framework in Research 2025

Our workshop will guide participants through the essential components of racial equity in research, focusing on the 5Ws Framework (Who, What, When, Where, and Why). We will explore the complex roles of race, racism, anti-racism, and racial equity within research and examine systemic barriers through real-world examples and historical contexts. By posing key questions of who is included, what resources are allocated, when research activities occur, where research is conducted, and why certain approaches are chosen, participants will gain practical strategies for embedding equity in their projects and research settings. Through the workshop, participants will be better equipped with actionable strategies to actively advance racial equity. By the end of the session, they will have a deeper understanding of how to incorporate a racial equity lens into their research and practical steps to implement these principles in their work. This workshop is ideal for faculty, research staff, trainees, students, and community researchers who seek to develop more equitable research practices.
