Each year the Physician Assistant Education Association (PAEA) awards 15 Future Educator Fellowships to students of its member schools.

The PAEA website describes the opportunity as an “exciting year-long fellowship, designed to explore foundations in teaching, expose students to the current educational environment, and expand professional development and leadership opportunities.”

Among this year’s awardees is Duke Physician Assistant Program student Katherine Bullock, who spoke of the fellowship selection, saying, "I am incredibly honored and excited to be selected for the PAEA Future Educator Fellowship. Mentorship is something on which I place immense value; not only have my mentors shown me great support and encouragement, but they have also demonstrated how imperative it is to remain curious and humble, and to continue learning for the entirety of one’s career. I hope to be involved in education and leadership within my community by hosting students as a clinical preceptor, collaborating with PA programs, and teaming with organizations, like my state chapter of AAPA, that provide resources for students.

"As someone who is new to teaching, I look forward to building foundational skills in academic research, team-based learning, and formal presentations that will help me to become a more effective instructor. I am eager to meet other students, clinicians, and educators who share my passion for the PA profession and who strive to continuously improve PA training and patient care. I know it will be inspiring to hear the paths by which my colleagues and mentors in PAEA entered academia and the variety of ways they have incorporated teaching into their professions. Upon completing the fellowship, I am excited to begin my career as a provider and an educator, equipped with skills and resources that will enable me to meaningfully contribute to the future of the PA profession."
