Brittany Macon-Davis, DMSc, MHS, PA-C, joined the faculty of the Duke Physician Assistant Program on March 1, 2023. She earned her Master of Health Science in Physician Assistant Studies from the Duke PA Program in 2015 and her Doctor of Medical Science from the University of Lynchburg in 2019. Why did you choose to join the faculty in the Department of Family Medicine & Community Health?
The Department of Family Medicine & Community Health is my home. This is where I grew up. As a student here, I felt that I had a team wanting me to be successful. Now coming back, I feel the sentiment even stronger. The Department of Physician Assistant Studies invests in their stakeholders. This department continuously offers an immense amount of opportunities to grow and develop. Your journey is what you make it and that is what leadership wants for you. Furthermore, the team is not okay with the status quo. Medicine is always changing. People are always changing and we have to adapt. This team of hardworking individuals are always trying to improve in every aspect, and that amazes me. Here within the department, they are striving for excellence within Justice, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; teaching; and PA education. The team encourages not only faculty and staff but students as well to make a difference beyond Duke's campus. I want to be a part of that.
Where were you working previous to Duke? What was your role there?
Previously, I was an Assistant Professor at High Point University Physician Assistant Program where I was the course director for the Pharmacology Course during the didactic year. In addition to being the course director for pharmacology, I functioned as the lab instructor for the History and Physical course. In addition to my faculty responsibilities, I was the chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee, Faculty advisor for the High Point University Pre-PA Organization, and was committee member of the Congdon School of Health Sciences Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee and High Point University Department of Physician Assistant Studies Admissions Committee. Clinically, I was practicing with the Inpatient Solid Tumor Team at Levine Cancer Institute and Carolina Digestive Health Associates. Prior to academia, I was working at Levine Cancer Institute as the Lead Inpatient Solid Tumor Advanced Practice Provider providing coverage at Carolinas Medical Center and Atrium Health Mercy Hospital.
