Kelly Reynolds Receives the Jan K. Richardson Teaching Award

Kelly Reynolds, PT, DPT, NCS, received the Jan K Richardson Award for Excellence in Teaching at the Duke DPT Hooding and Recognition Ceremony held on May 13, 2023.

Dr. Reynolds is board-certified in neurological physical therapy with expertise working with people with spinal cord injuries. She brings extensive experience to her teaching role having treated patients with neurological disorders and spinal cord injuries at the Shepherd Center, Wake Med, and UNC. 

She has taught in most courses across the DPT curriculum as a teaching assistant, faculty resident, and faculty member.  She is a dedicated teacher and can often be seen in the cadaver lab, surrounded by students while she explains the complexities of the Circle of Willis or the intricacies of cranial nerves.  Her passion carries through in all that she does and in every interaction with DPT students.

Dr. Reynolds joined the DPT as a faculty development resident in 2019 and then joined the core faculty in 2022.  She teaches in the foundational curriculum (gross anatomy, geriatrics, and neurologic patient management) and co-directs the Durham Neuro Camp advanced practice course. She is currently a PhD student at Rocky Mountain University, studying Health Sciences, and will defend her dissertation on May 19, 2023.  

Established in 2004, the award is named for Dr. Richardson who is past president and Worthingham Fellow in the American Physical Therapy Association.  She is now a professor emeritus.
