Name: Aaron Wallace
Hometown: Roosevelt, Utah
Degree: Masters of Health Sciences Pathologists’ Assistant Program
Why did you want to become a Pathologists' Assistant?
I was looking for a career in allied health that was interesting, challenging, and that would allow me to become skilled both intellectually and technically. I originally wanted to work as a physical therapist but decided that seeing organs from all body systems and dissecting them was more interesting to me personally than working directly with patients.
Why did you choose Duke?
There are about a dozen Pathologists’ Assistant programs in the United States, and none in my home state. Duke’s challenging didactic year, local rotations, and reasonable price were a big plus. During their interview process the pathology residents and graduating second years all stated that everyone at Duke really wants you to succeed, and I have found this to be true.
What are some of your favorite memories from your time in the program?
I have loved getting to know my seven classmates, spending time in the beautiful NC outdoors, and taking my family on adventures hiking, camping, and strawberry picking.
What are your ultimate career goals?
To become very good at what I do, and to teach. I would also be interested in helping shape or direct a program after working clinically for a number of years.
