Introducing the Duke School of Medicine Roadmap for Open Science

The term open science describes a broad effort aimed at making scientific processes, data, analyses, and publications as accessible as possible. By eliminating barriers to sharing data and improving access to research findings, the open science movement seeks to accelerate learning and discovery worldwide while ensuring that everyone can benefit equally from scientific knowledge.

Ada Gregory is the Associate Director of the Kenan Institute for Ethics and the student Ombudsperson at Duke University. Ada Gregory’s career demonstrates passion and commitment to violence prevention. She brings more than 25 years of experience working in a variety of capacities designing, implementing, and evaluating training for judges, physicians, teachers, police officers, 911 operators, attorneys, students and a variety of other professionals and lay people.

Duke Alumnus, Trustee William Kaelin Receives Nobel Prize for Medicine

Dr. William G. Kaelin Jr., a Duke trustee and alumnus, was awarded the 2019 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine. Kaelin received both his undergraduate and medical degrees from Duke and is a professor in the Department of Medicine at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute at Harvard Medical School and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator.

Duke Medical Student Alex Villeda awarded Herbert W. Nickens Medical Student Scholarship

Duke University medical student Alex Villeda has been awarded the 2019 Herbert W. Nickens Medical Student Scholarship by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC)  recognizing  outstanding students entering their third year of medical school who have shown leadership efforts to eliminate inequities in medical education and health care. Recipients receive a $5,000 scholarship check and a crystal award. Villeda will be recognized and will accept his award at the AAMC annual meeting in Phoenix Arizona in November.
