Duke/UNC Awarded Grant to Establish Joint Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center

A variety of terms are used to describe people who come from, or have family roots coming from, countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. In the United States, two terms are most frequently used, sometimes interchangeably: Hispanic, and some variation of Latino, Latina, or Latinx.
In our first “Ask the ODI” column, we’ll discuss these terms, why they matter, and why many people from these communities have complex feelings about what term(s) they prefer. We’ll also share some links to resources where you can read more on the subject.

White receives AAMC’s Distinguished Teaching Award
The American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) has awarded Leonard White, PhD, the 2021 Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teacher Award. These national awards, given to only four individuals a year, recognize outstanding contributions to medical education made by gifted teachers.
As associate professor in neurology at the Duke University School of Medicine, White has set the bar for medical education through impressive foresight, anticipating student needs and pioneering new approaches well ahead of others in the field.
