Sudarshan Rajagopal, M.D., Ph.D., is the Director of the Robert J. Lefkowitz Society. The Lefkowitz Society is a mentoring home for Duke physician-scientist trainees who are focused on basic/translational research-intensive careers. Dr. Rajagopal also serves as an Associate Director in the Office of Physician-Scientist Development (OPSD) to determine the best strategies to train and support physician-scientists.

In his role as the Lefkowitz Society Director, Dr. Rajagopal facilitates opportunities for members to develop successful research projects, including helping members find appropriate research mentors to enhance their future research success and productivity. Dr. Rajagopal coordinates opportunities for Lefkowitz Society to benefit from direct interactions with senior Duke physician-investigators through a series of dinner programs and other activities.

Dr. Rajagopal is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine (Cardiology), Biochemistry, and Cell Biology, and Pharmacology and Cancer Biology. His research is focused on G protein-coupled receptor signaling in inflammation and vascular disease and a clinical focus on pulmonary vascular disease. Dr. Rajagopal also serves as the Co-Director of the Duke Pulmonary Vascular Disease Center. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed original research papers and is the principal investigator (PI/MPI) on multiple NIH, industry, and foundation-sponsored studies.
