Shivesh Shourya

Hi! I'm Shivesh Shourya, a medical student in the Primary Care Leadership Track (PCLT) at Duke! Born in India, I grew up moving across Connecticut, Texas, and California before ultimately calling New Jersey home. Finding myself at the intersection of numerous diverse identities heavily shapes how I view medicine, driving my deep commitment to providing culturally humble, dignified, and continuous care. My academic and professional path includes a B.S. in Neuroscience with a minor in Society and Genetics from UCLA (class of 2022) and an MPH in Social and Behavioral Sciences from Yale (class of 2025). During my gap years, I managed industry and federally funded clinical trials at UCLA Health and Columbia University, focusing on neuroendocrine tumors and mobile health interventions for HIV treatment and prevention. As an implementation scientist in training, my passion for patient advocacy lies in improving PrEP accessibility, spearheading quality improvement and street medicine initiatives for unhoused and undocumented individuals, and proposing data infrastructure enhancements for transgender patient care at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. At Duke, I stay actively engaged as a student leader and advocate through the Davison Council, DukeMed Pride, SAMoSA @ DukeMed, Duke Mobile Medicine, and the Holton Clinic. Looking ahead, my clinical interests lie in Child Neurology or Med-Peds, and I hope to ultimately contribute to medical education reform by embedding structural competency and inclusive care into future clinician training. Outside of the clinic, I love to read fiction, cook, sing, challenge myself in group fitness classes, practice playing the guitar, and make the absolute most of the nightlife in the vibrant cities I call home.
