Perla Medrano, MSGH, is a Program Coordinator at the Duke Global Health Institute, working with Dr. William Pan’s team. In this role, she provides project management and research support for three significant malaria and climate health studies across Latin America, including Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Panama, and Honduras. These studies aim to develop an early warning system and other innovative tools to aid in malaria control and elimination efforts. Prior to joining Duke, Perla contributed to global health and emergency response operations in various capacities, such as supporting poliovirus containment communications at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, conducting infectious disease research in Sri Lanka, the U.S., and Latin America, and assisting in American Red Cross and government-led emergency responses. She holds a Master of Science in Global Health degree from Duke, where she was a Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellow in Haitian Creole, and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology with a Minor in Business Administration from Texas A&M International University. As a first-generation Mexican-American from South Texas, Perla is dedicated to improving Latiné health outcomes and enhancing Latiné representation in STEM fields. She is excited to contribute to ¡DALHE! as a Career Committee member, fostering the professional growth of the Latiné community at Duke University.
