Specialty Interest: Neurosurgery (specifically neurosurgical oncology)
Hi! My name is Maya, and I'm a first-year medical student here at Duke. I grew up in New Jersey and studied neuroscience at Johns Hopkins, where I also played on the NCAA women's basketball team and conducted glioblastoma therapeutics research. After undergrad, I moved to Dublin, Ireland for a year to complete my MSc in Cancer Survivorship at Trinity College Dublin.
My academic interests are in neurosurgical oncology, medical education, surgical capacity building, and cancer survivorship. A fun fact about me: I just recently became a national champion in semi-professional women's tackle football!
In my free time, I love spending time with friends, lifting and running, cooking, going to concerts and musicals, and learning new skills (I'm currently learning to rock climb and how to dance Argentine Tango).
