Hello! My name is Maya Blasingame, and I am a fourth-year medical student applying into general surgery. I am passionate about medical education and mentorship, community engagement, and health outcomes research. During my third year, I worked with Dr. Jennifer Plichta, doing clinical outcomes research focused on breast cancer and high-risk patient populations. During my time at Duke, I have been involved in several leadership and service organizations, including Class Council, SNMA, Future Leaders in Surgery (FLX), and the General Surgery Interest Group. I also serve on the national medical student board of the Association of Women Surgeons. I have especially enjoyed supporting and mentoring other students throughout premed journey. Outside of medicine, I love traveling, baking, and hosting themed dinner parties and movie nights with friends.
