Specialty Interest: Cardiothoracic Surgery, Surgery

I am from and went to college in Utah, where I majored in philosophy and was involved in cancer and infectious diseases research, volunteering with the state court system for child welfare issues, and work in K-12 education. At Duke, I help run the infectious diseases and transplant surgery (SUPORTS) interest groups, the Duke chapter of the Hippocratic Society, and am part of the Armstrong Scholars Program in Medical Humanities. In my first year I also participated in the bioethics and history of medicine groups.

Because my interests shifted pretty dramatically to surgery in the first few months of medical school, I can talk about ways Duke helps students explore different careers within medicine as early as MS1 year. I am also happy to talk about moving far from home, ways to be involved in the Durham community outside Duke, getting involved in research here, and engaging with any interests you have outside of traditional biomedical and clinical fields (such as policy, ethics, writing, humanities, etc).

Outside of school I like camping, watching sports, and cooking + trying new restaurants. If you share any of these interests and/or want suggestions for where to eat out, feel free to reach out!
