Anna Hampton, DVM, is the Director of Duke University's Office of Animal Welfare Assurance and Chair of Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.
Anna helps oversee compliance monitoring programs and all administrative functions of the Duke Office of Animal Welfare Assurance. She provides support to the Duke research community, institutional officials, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, and attending veterinarians in meeting their regulatory obligations and helps ensure institutional policies/procedures are in place to assure the Duke Animal Program is meeting its internal and external obligations.
Anna received her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science with a minor in Education from the University of Florida and earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. After veterinary school, she completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Carolina Veterinary Specialist and a post-doctoral fellowship in comparative medicine at the University of Michigan.

Anna is board certified by the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) and the American College of Animal Welfare (ACAW) and is a Certified Professional IACUC Administrator (CPIA).
Anna really enjoys learning about and navigating the regulatory and oversight responsibilities of an animal program. Although some regulatory and oversight obligations are unavoidable, knowledge of the requirements allows her to explore opportunities that refine processes to better serve the research community and improve animal welfare.
