Register now! A Workshop in Effective Communication: The 5 Cs of Sentence and Story

Thursday, August 6, 9:30am-2:00pm

This half-day hands-on workshop will help faculty develop skills for improved academic writing. The workshop will address the “5 Cs” of effective writing: making sure it is complete, compelling, clear, concise, and consistent. Experienced science writer and scientific editor Joanna Downer will guide participants through strategies for improved writing and storytelling to make all of your professional communications more effective. Topics will include knowing your audience, choosing the right information, telling a convincing story, and avoiding common pitfalls. Faculty will have opportunities to practice their skills throughout the session. Content will be broadly applicable to all types of academic writing, and participants should bring a current writing project to work on (e.g. in progress manuscript, grant application, letter of nomination, or other).
