Duke Medical School welcomes new health professions students

Two hundred and seventy-three students started their health professions careers at Duke University School of Medicine this month. Orientations and ceremonies continue to take place for the Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Physical Therapy and Physician Assistant Programs.


Statistics for the 2014 entering Medical Doctor class:

  • 109 students chosen from 6,148 applications
  • 48 women and 61 men
  • 26 under-represented minority students
  • Students from 31 states represented
  • Students from 55 undergraduate institutions represented

Statistics for the 2014 entering Doctor of Physical Therapy class:

  • 74 students chosen from 738 applicants
  • 52 women and 22 men
  • 9 under-represented minority students
  • Students from 23 states represented
  • Students from 62 undergraduate institutions represented

Statistics for the 2014 entering Physician Assistant class:

  • 90 Students
  • 64 women and 26 men
  • 22 under-represented minority students
  • Students from 27 states represented
  • Students from 235 universities represented
