MMCi is a one-year program that began in 2009 within Duke’s Fuqua School of Business. Three years ago, the program moved to the School of Medicine, and is partially supported with Duke CTSA funds. The program combines the business knowledge of an MBA with the technical knowledge of an informatics degree, with an intense focus on how both affect the world of medicine.
“The goal of the MMCi program is to help us all learn how to use technology to improve quality and reduce cost of health care,” said Kevin Schulman, MD, founding director of the MMCi program, professor of medicine, and the Gregory Mario and Jeremy Mario Chair of Business Administration at the Fuqua School of Business.
“These students learn to work across the silos of technology, business, and the practice of medicine,” says Randy Sears, MMCi operations director. “They end up being able to translate across boundaries to help business people understand the complexities of health care, and explain the capabilities and challenges of technology to clinicians.”
