2019 Early Career Women Faculty Leadership Development Seminar
February 2-5, 2019
Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine
San Diego, California

Greetings,

We’re writing to provide you with information about the AAMC Early Career Women Faculty Leadership Development Seminar taking place on February 2-5, 2019 at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine, in San Diego, California. The application process has begun and will continue through October 1, 2018 at 11:59PM Eastern Time. Please review and consider extending this email to any of your colleagues who may benefit from this exciting learning opportunity.

The Early Career Women Faculty Leadership Development Seminar is an engaging and comprehensive program designed for women physicians and scientists holding medical school faculty appointments at the assistant professor level*, with at least one year experience in their faculty role (e.g. received faculty appointment prior to February 2018), and considering leadership positions within their discipline, department, or institution. *Instructors will be considered based on experience.

This three and a half-day program provides an introduction to the knowledge and skills needed to pursue leadership roles within academic medicine and science. The program consists of general sessions and concurrent workshops on various topics including:

Working Through Differences: Personality Types at Work
Fundamentals of Leadership
Time, Email Management and Organizational Skills
Communicating as a Leader
Leading Teams
And small group concurrent workshops on academic promotion for your faculty track and other leadership skills necessary for skill development and advancement

Additionally, the program also includes faculty and peer mentoring sessions on the development of your CV and personal statement; as well as morning and afternoon yoga sessions to promote wellness. Throughout the program, participants learn and engage with each other, developing a valuable network of colleagues that extends far beyond the program.

The online application period for the February seminar will close on Monday, October 1, 2018 at 11:59 pm, Eastern Time. The application requires a letter of support from your sponsoring entity, an updated CV, and responses to a series of application questions. For more information, a preliminary agenda, and to apply, please visit our website

If you had previously applied for the 2018 early-career seminar, and were rejected, it may have been due to the high number of applications received, as many qualified applicants were turned away. To extend our reach in supporting our early career women faculty, we encourage you to apply for the February 2019 seminar, and will permit you to use your previous letter of support, as long as your institution and supervisor or other administrative leader has not changed since applying to the 2018 seminar. Our team will conduct a thorough review of each application and will provide a decision to prospective applicants by the end of October.

A second Early Career Women Faculty Leadership Development Seminar will take place on July 27-30, 2019 in St. Louis, Missouri. More information, including dates to apply, will become available in mid-February 2019.
