Faculty play an important role in creating and sustaining a healthy and inclusive work climate. This seminar will begin with a review of policies and practices to support professionalism in the School of Medicine, before transitioning to an interactive workshop on bystander interventions. Participants will have the opportunity to learn and practice techniques for responding to harmful words and behaviors in the workplace. Starting a new faculty appointment is an exciting and challenging opportunity, and whether you joined Duke this month or last year, the School of Medicine Office for Faculty wants to make sure you have the tools and support to hit the ground running and to navigate your career here. While this series of seminars specifically targets faculty hired in the past three years, all are welcome and many of the topics addressed are applicable to faculty regardless of career stage. The 2020-2021 School of Medicine Academic New Faculty Orientation will be structured as a series of seminars held over the course of six months, beginning in April.
