Medical Device Startups Workshop

Speaker:

William Walker & Joseph Knight
In 2004, HemoSonics was founded to develop an in vitro diagnostic platform capable of rapidly diagnosing and thereby treating clotting defects in critical bleeding. In this talk, William Walker will share his story as a Founder of HemoSonics, including product conception, a major technological pivot, key stages of fundraising and product development, regulatory approval, company acquisition, and ultimately product release in the US and Europe. Founded in 2013 by a group of Duke surgeons, InnAVasc Medical is developing technologies to reduce the risk of complications and bleeding from repeated dialysis. During this talk, Joseph Knight will discuss the key considerations for any medical device company through the journey of need identification and device conception, development of the technology with paths through product development and the regulatory process, including bench, animal, and clinical testing, all the way to acquisition.
