Smoothing methods for curve estimation can discover useful insights in contexts where there is not an obvious statistical model, and often can also indicate poorly fitting models. Methods for understanding which discovered features represent important underlying structure are also discussed. This event is being cross-promoted by the NC BERD Consortium, a collaboration of the CTSA-funded BERD cores at UNC-Chapel Hill, Wake Forest University School of Medicine, and Duke University School of Medicine.
